Marcotte Anderson commented on Kevin R Mullins's blog post 'We have a Spending Problem, Not A Revenue Problem'
It is true that we have to reign in spending. It is also true that we have to raise enough revenue to pay for the services that the electorate wants. If the electorate wants the Federal Government to wage wars officially in 2 countries and…

Did We Experience A Great Recession or a Depression?

There has been much discussion regarding the most recent recession, often referred to as "The Great Recession".  I have often felt that using the word Depression may have been avoided due to the ensuing panic this would have caused. Even though we are technically in an economic recovery, there are many statistics that clearly show that the recovery is not sustainable.  I would like to explore some…See More

Kevin, What's your take on my point about consumer spending? Do you agree, or disagree, and why? I'm interested in hearing your thoughts, as someone with a different philosophical view about taxation, yet one who also obviously has…

Another popular alternative is setting up a Family A-B Trust Yeah, that's what I was referring to. There is also something called a Q-tip Trust that goes along with it, though I don't really understand the details. The fact that you have 3…

Marcotte: Thanks for your response. In answer to your questions, my answers are listed below: 1. Your comment regarding establishing a Trust is a "best practice" for Estate Planning. However, it has been surprising to me regarding the…

there is a 55% Top death tax rate on estates over $1 million. Anyone with enough assets to worry about estate tax should set up a Revocable Living Trust (our lawyer charged us around $3000). This will allow you to avoid paying taxes on up to the…

Up, Up, & Away!

In just three months, on January 1, 2011, the largest tax hikes in the history of America will take effect. They will hit families and small businesses in Three Great Waves. I normally like to provide "short and to the point" information, but the topic of Increasing Tax Rates requires some more detailed information. On January 1, 2011, here is what will happen:First Wave: Expiration of 2001 and 2003 Tax Relief: 1. In 2001 and 2003, the GOP Congress enacted several tax cuts for investors, small…See More

I used an individual in the analysis to put this in perspective. But that's a disingenuous perspective. You're putting the weight of the entire debt on one individual, when in fact it is shared by all. Don't get me wrong, I agree…

History has proven that a Government cannot spend itself into prosperity. Prosperity must come from the Private Sector. What's your take on 1936-1945 then? There we had a dramatic increase in public spending coinciding with the end of the Great…

I used an individual in the analysis to put this in perspective. I did not intend to use a "scare tactic". In addition, the $12 Billion Dollars per day that our Government received in Revenue is not adequate to cover the Expenses per day…

We have a Spending Problem, Not A Revenue Problem

Over the past two years, there has been much discussion regarding our Federal Government Fiscal Crisis.  Most of the discussion has involved whether we have a revenue or a spending problem.

Recession or Recovery?

“It’s official: The 2007-2009 recession, which wiped out 7.3 Million jobs, cut 4.1% from Economic Output and cost Americans 21% of their Net Worth, marked the longest slump since the Great Depression.”
