Ron Paul's and Iran's bomb

Ron Paul made more news yesterday when he stated that Iran would be justified blocking the straits of Hormuz because our sanctions against them are effectively acts of war. Story here. His position on Iran, and their alleged nuclear weapons program, has been alarming from the start, but this statement kicks it up a notch (does quoting Emeril date me?), and shows Paul's…See More

In light of today's unemployment report... some thoughts on the President's economic team

The unemployment rate is up to 9.6% although we did add 67K workers last month. But I think this is the side story. The real story here is that the President's economic team keeps getting it wrong. The obvious first straw was…See More

Mexico in 2010 is turning into Colombia in the 80's-90's

Where to begin.... Mexican police in Santiago murder their own mayor? That story is just from this weekend. How about 4 decapitated bodies hung from a bridge in Cuernavaca? That story is from yesterday. If you've followed the news at all you'll know that these two stories are just the tip of the…See More

Admit it. You love it that there are birthers. They're an impossibly easy target and I'm sure the left finds them to be far more useful than threatening.

M.Bailey commented on Nancy J. Thorner's blog post 'A Disturbing Trend in Conservative Circles'
Actually, this post, in my opinion, is an excellent example of a disturbing trend in conservative circles. Evidently there are still plenty of conservatives who think that AIDS is some kind of retribution against the gay sinners. I cringe when I…

M.Bailey commented on Nancy J. Thorner's blog post 'Federal workers live on a tax-payer-funded gravy train'
I agree with you Ron, for the most part. Much of what the Federal gov't does could be done by local communities. But that's a legislative argument. That's an argument in favor of gov't doing less. Fine. Unfortunately for that…

And just to pile on a little bit, if one's analysis of a situation is to be taken seriously, it should not consecutively claim that "federal employees' average compensation has grown to more than double what private sector workers…

We've had similar threads on this site. Victoria De Rugy at George Mason has written a number of times on this subject. I will agree that in some (heck, let's say many) cases gov't workers earn more money than private sector workers…

M.Bailey commented on Phillip Jerome Chesser's blog post 'California's Prop 8'
Marcotte, I think what gets people hung up on the idea of just taking marriage out of the gov't purview is that most people in this country, and I mean most liberals too, still fancy ourselves to be operating in the context of a gov't that…

The media's mouth wrote another check that science's a$$ couldn't cash

It's frustrating when I see the media spin science. The media hype-machine puts scientists in the unenviable position of having to live up to unreasonable expectations. Unfortunately some scientists willfully contribute to the process.Adam Keiper has a great post up on The Corner detailing comments from J. Craig Venter where he essentially puts the headstone in place over the grave of the…See More

M.Bailey commented on Phillip Jerome Chesser's blog post 'California's Prop 8'
Just to pile on a bit..... The question of rights v. privileges is one where conservatives and liberals alike tend to mis-interpret reality. Liberals tend to think that everything is a right. In their view people have a "right" to bike…

"We don't have those problems. That's a major advantage to being gay. You don't have to put up with women's insatiable demands, children, mothers in law, or anything else that goes with marriage." Really? That's…

M.Bailey commented on Paul Chesser's blog post 'Volt Cost a Jolt'
Hey, I'm all for finding a way to eliminate emissions. I believe that reducing emissions (at least in urban centers) is an unqualified good thing. My gripe is that all of this is being laid at the feet of regular people, while we are not the…

M.Bailey commented on Paul Chesser's blog post 'Volt Cost a Jolt'
Marcotte, the idea that reducing the emissions of personal automobiles is going to significantly reduce the amount of pollutants in the atmosphere is like saying that if we all took a gulp out of the ocean we could drain it. This whole line of…
