Donald Berwick's Radical Agenda
You may have seen our Health Care News footage of Donald Berwick last week on television, but if you missed it, you can find it here. Dr. Berwick is Obama’s nominee to head the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, essentially the world’s second-largest insurance company, and he is a cheerleader for government-run health care and rationing, particularly when describing his love affair with Britain’s National Health Service. As we noted in Health Care…

Every Horrid Thing You Need to Know About How Healthcare is Paid for Today
By Alan Caruba
“Despite more than sixty years of government efforts—representing the work of both political parties—we are moving further and further away from what we want. Prices are higher, more people are excluded from needed care, more excess treatments are performed, and more people die from preventable errors. Why?”
Why, indeed! Having had the Affordable Care Act (ACA) forced on us by a Democrat-controlled Congress—some of whom had to be bribed for their vote—Americans…

Health care the right way.
America has agitated to "fix" the health care problem for 50 years or more. No one will say explicitly what the "Health Care Problem" is.
I will.
1. Medical care costs too much.
2. Everyone isn't covered.
While everyone will agree with…

Health Department Sourpusses
Entrepreneurs, even seven-year-old lemonade stand franchisees, are not welcome to peddle their concoctions in Portland without the government thugs getting their cut. In this case, little Julie Murphy was shut down by the Multnomah County Health Department for setting up at a monthly art festival in Northern Portland without paying a $120 temporary restaurant license. The Oregonian…

Not fade away ...
Whatever you think of President Obama's health bill, he did manage to accomplish one thing: Health care freedom is now one of the central political issues of our time. It's not simply going to fade…Continue

Consumers
But no one gets hit as bad as consumers. CNN collected a bunch of folks who have no intention of complying with the mandate. One says, "I will not buy health care, nor will I pay a penalty. Just because the government assesses a fine, it doesn't mean they'll be able to collect it."
Another, an insurance broker, says, "I currently pay about $700 per month for health insurance for me and my wife, for an annual cost of $8,400. Under the new law, if I choose not to carry…

Health on the Hill
As stated in the introduction above, The United States Congress is considering a tax package that includes a Medicare reimbursement fix for physicians, known as the “doc fix.” Kaiser Health News gives a breakdown of the legislation that will provide a reimbursement rate increase of 2.2 percent for the remainder of 2010 and a 1 percent rate increase for 2011 at a cost of $25.2 billion. We should not forget that the Congressional Budget Office recently found that a 10-year “fix” of…

NFIB Sees the Light
Small wonder, then, that the NFIB has completely changed its tune. You may remember the NFIB had joined AARP and the SEIU to form the "Divided We Fail" coalition. It put a lot of money into advertising in support of comprehensive health reform and in misleading people about the problem of bankruptcy related to health care expenses. After Obama was elected NFIB was one of the voices calling for immediate action on health reform.
Then about a year ago NFIB's president…

Health Savings Accounts Still Growing
It is already old news, but AHIP has issued its latest survey of HSA enrollment. The survey found that 10 million people were enrolled in HSA-qualified coverage as of January 1, 2010, an increase of 25% from a year ago. The states with the greatest numbers enrolled were California (1,018,000), Ohio (651,000), Florida (639,000), Texas (637,000), Illinois (575,000), and Minnesota (361,000). The states with the greatest market penetration were Vermont (13.8%), Colorado (9.2%),…

The evolving conservative politics of health care
Hey, didn't President Obama say that his health care plan isn't much different than what the Heritage
Foundation once advocated? He said that, and there's a little truth to the charge, but (surprise!), that's not the whole story.
A terrific…
