Washington Post to FCC: Back Away from the Internet

The Washington Post editorial board leans left, but is more reasonable in its policy prescriptions than, say, The New York Times. The paper published a remarkably sound editorial Monday morning about the Federal Communications Commission's National Broadband Plan, and Chairman Julius Genachowski's desire to grab sweeping control over the digital economy by imposing strict net…

Obama Advisor Says Government Must Control Internet Content

Cass Sunstein, a long-time Obama legal advisor and a man considered to be continually on the president's short list for U.S. Supreme Court nominations, gave a pretty chilling interview to WBEZ radio in February 2001.

It would be ideal, he said, if bloggers routinely linked to those who hold opposing views. But, if that isn't done as a matter of course, it would be prudent for the government to require it. Granted, this was a while ago, but Obama's recent commencement speech…

FCC Staffer: Copps wants "jurisdiction over everything" on the Internet

Via our friend Peter Suderman over at Reason's blog comes this clip of a high-level staffer of FCC Commissioner Michael Copps' sharing her boss' view of how the agency should eventually have control over the entire Internet.

Surely, as Suderman points out, this will be…

FCC Plows Ahead with Plan to Regulate the Internet

Exactly one month after a federal court ruled the Federal Communications Commission lacks the authority to regulate the Internet, the agency’s chairman unveiled a plan to nonetheless implement his ambitious National Broadband Plan—an avenue he called a “third way.”

FCC Chairman Julius Genachowski said agency lawyers had found a way for the commission to strictly impose net neutrality rules on Internet service providers (ISPs), despite the… Continue

A Broadband Sob Story. Try Not to Laugh — or Get Mad

The leftist outfit with the Orwellian name "Free Press" put out the above video not as a parody, but as a piece of propaganda they think will win converts to their side — the side of government management of the Internet and "free" broadband for all (paid for by the U.S. taxpayer).

Oh, the horror of relying on Dial-Up because you can't adjust your family budget to pay around $50 a month (or less) for… Continue

Stop Complaining! You're Living in a Wondrous Age!

David Boaz (that's not him at left) has a must-read post at the The Cato Institute's blog about how we live in a wondrous technological age — and proof comes in that cell phone you have laying on the table over there. What was the key to bringing this about? The break-up of the government-imposed monopoly known as Ma Bell, and deregulation of the… Continue
