Just How Awful will 2013 Be?

By Alan Caruba

Pundits and experts of every description love to predict and pontificate. That they are often famously wrong doesn’t get the attention it deserves.

The Great Depression began on October 29, 1929 with the stock market crash. On October 17th, Irving Fisher, a professor of economics…

Time to Rid the Streets of the "Occupy" Movement

By Alan Caruba

Is there any doubt left in the minds of observers of the Occupy Wall Street movement tends toward violence and is in need of control? The mayors of the cities—some seventy at last count—that are being occupied need to crack down on it.

Arnold Schwarzenegger (R) touted as his signal policy accomplishment, imposes a "cap and trade" system to regulate pollution and requiring all manner of rules on how Californians may live.

Well, as it happens, the Legislature passed AB 32…

California's Shoddy Global Warming Law Springs a Leak

I wrote about the dire economic consequences California's "Global Warming Solutions Act" would have on California's economy for City Journal's website in February. At the time, I argued Gov. Schwarzengger would be insane not to suspend the law in the face of record unemployment and a sluggish economic recovery, noting a report by the state Air Resources Board that predicted “While climate policy yields new types…

Luckily this Is Governor Granholm’s Last Budget

Governor Jennifer Granholm’s annual budget unveiling over the years has become about as enjoyable as banging one’s head against a concrete wall. Her approach of staying the course from years past will further hurt the state’s fiscal position and economy. Facing a $1.7 billion budget deficit she has proposed a mish-mash of tax hikes, tax swaps, and “fees,” while offering few if any actual reforms to rein in spending.

Michigan will continue to face record high unemployment…
