Cap and Trade

Lately we have been catching a lot of criticism for the comments of the Pamela Gorman interview on our webpage http://www.globalwarminginitiative.com/blog/detail/16418. Many of the criticisms have come from people who see Cap and Trade as a positive market based solution to combat Global Warming. Here is how we at GWI see it:

What it is:

Cap and Trade is a system by which a company who produces too much carbon can reduce its carbon output by purchasing carbon credits from another company who produces less than their allotted credits. The number which any company is allowed to produce is regulated by a governmental regulatory body, and these numbers are continually lowered to reduce the total number of carbon in the ecosystem. This has the result of COSTING MORE MONEY to the company who has to pay for the right to produce more carbon, and where is that money going to come from YOU AND ME! This has the result of increasing the cost of goods, and not just some goods all goods that are manufactured and or shipped across the world. This is why people are fighting Cap and Trade, because: 1) without worldwide agreement its impossible to do as countries such and India and China have fought any agreement of the sort. 2) Most people cannot already afford the cost of many goods, and thus cannot afford the increase which will come with Cap and Trade 3) The only ones making money on Cap and Trade will be the bankers who trade the Carbon Credits, and let me be clear when I say that they will make billions while it continually costs the consumer more and more money.

This is why we have come to not only oppose Cap and Trade, but we applaud those like Australian Senator Cory Bernardi for their individual efforts to stop Emissions Trading around the world.
