Coloring Book Publisher Gets Death Threats

So, it's come to this:

The author-publisher of "The Tea Party Coloring Book for Kids" says he has received death threats over its publication.

Wayne Bell, publisher of St. Louis-based Really Big Coloring Books, said in an interview with CBS that his $3.59 coloring book is not political. But some critics think the book was designed for politically conservative adults, and not for children.

"We're not really making a political statement," Bell told CBS, adding that his company also publishes coloring books on the Rockettes, Cirque du Soleil and President Obama.

In response, some jackass from the St. Louis "Coffee Party" brays: "I think it's inappropriate. I really question whether it's even targeted atchildren. Blah blah blah blah blah..." [Edited for clarity -BB]

To reiterate: Tea party opponents are so offended at the idea of a Tea Party coloring book, they've taken the time to send threatening e-mails and make threatening phone calls. Charming.

Here's the book's Amazon page. The listed price is $4.99 (not $3.59 as reported in the story) and shipping time is 1-2 months. (Another coloring book site offers the book at $3.59 here.) Seems as though the little book is in high demand.

I just ordered three.

I think that's probably right... the company is attempting to tap different markets here.

"We're not really making a political statement,"

Of course I don't condone death threats or other threatening behavior against someone exercising their 1st Amendment rights, but how can a book called "The Tea Party [blank]" NOT be political on some level?

Perhaps the publisher isn't making a personal political statement - he's probably just cashing in on the movement - but it seems this is as political as any of the myriad of "Global Warming" coloring books, or the "inspirational and educational, book that highlights President Elect Barack Obama and his historic campaign leading to the White House" published by the same company, which teaches "how children may be involved in their local community."
