The attached is a page from the Sierra Club's candidate questionnaire. They did not get the memo about Climate Gate.
SMART ENERGY AND GLOBAL WARMING SOLUTIONS
There are no solutions to Global Warming, because a) its not happening and b) we can't affect the weather or climate
Global climate change is a major threat to Illinois' economy, public health, and environment. Climactic changes caused by rising pollution levels are projected to bring more violent weather, new disease threats, more public health emergencies caused by intense heat and pollution levels, threats to our drinking water supplies, and disruption of our agricultural economy, to name a few.
No it is not. It is a small threat to the snow and ice removal budgets, and the storm water and flood prevention budgets, but we are not going to see new diseases or intense heat emergencies. Nor are our water supplies going to dry up, nor our our farms going to dry up. Unless of course the Sierra Club decides to not let anyone irrigate their farms like in California.
There is broad scientific consensus that greenhouse gas emissions must be reduced 80% below today's levels by 2050 for the worst of these consequences to be avoided.
I call bullshit! Another far future prediction that cannot be taken seriously. Do these people ever read what they write? Do they ever consider that repeating a lie as truth is just as bad as telling it?
Many Illinois cities have taken a leadership role in fighting climate change by signing onto the U.S. Mayors Climate Change Protection Agreement, a voluntary pledge to reduce global warming pollution in their community. Technical expertise is available to these communities from the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency and numerous nonprofits. (For more about the agreement see:http://www .usmayors. org/climateprotection/climatechange. asp)
They did it to get the endorsement of the Sierra Club and the various 'non-profits', not to help the environment. But look! if you sign the agreement you get FREE technical 'expertise' from the IL EPA which is funded by your tax dollars.
Existing ordinances and incorporating more sustainable practices could significantly reduce global warming emissions. Several Illinois municipalities have been revising zoning ordinances to incorporate the use of renewable energy devices like solar and residential wind turbines and requiring that developments support mixed use and are transit oriented.
Windmills kill birds.

A July 2008 study of the wind farm at Altamont Pass, Calif., estimated that its turbines kill an average of 80 golden eagles per year. The study, funded by the Alameda County Community Development Agency, also estimated that about 10,000 birds—nearly all protected by the migratory bird act—are being whacked every year at Altamont.
