We at the Global Warming Initiative have been following the Associated Press story on Weatherization and would like to bring the story to you. Three stories on Weatherization are available at the website under the News link.
What it is:
Weatherization is the name of a new plan under the Recovery Act coming from the current administration to update more than 200,000 (with hopes of reaching 600,000) low income family homes to enable them to save money on their energy bills while putting thousands of unemployed construction workers back to work.
Where we stand:
For the first time the current administration finally seems to get a rational idea on how to invest money into the economy by attempting to employ people who are not just bankers (poke to the infamous bank bailouts). While we are in favor of creating jobs (no brainer), if there is anything certain its that government wastes and cannot create jobs like the free sector. In our interview with Carlo Stagnaro an Italian Economist, Carlo stated that in every example when monies where placed dollar for dollar in either green industries or classic industries the classics created more jobs and returned higher yields over time.
Again we see the government throwing money into a hole and hoping for the best, the recovery act is going to cost $90 Billion in hopes to increase clean energy uses. According to the Associated Press "weatherization... is widely considered among the least organized spending projects under the $814 billion economic stimulus law and has regularly been targeted for criticism of its slow progress by auditors and outsiders."
SHOCK AND AWE
a government plan which hands out monies is ripe with fraud and examples of shotty workmanship. Private sector needs to be efficient and cost effective, to actually get work done before they get paid, on the contrary apparently public sector jobs just hand out money without accountability... lack of accountability from government spending, an all too common trend....
